About the Forum
Global tuna production in 2005 reached 4.3 million mt and catches from the Pacific Ocean accounted for 63% of the total or 2.7 million mt. This makes the Pacific ocean the heart of the global tuna industry, and would most likely remain so for a long time to come. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the future of the tuna industry will very much depend on the future of the Pacific ocean, particularly the Western and Central Pacific ocean, where tuna resources are still relatively healthier than in the other oceans. If properly managed, the tuna resources in the region have the potential to grow further and provide for the future development of the industry in the region and beyond.
The Pacific Tuna Forum 2007 to be held from 12 -13 September, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG) will be the best forum for potential investors looking for business opportunities in the Pacific tuna industry. The Forum is the first major international tuna industry and trade conference to be held in the region. The event is not only important for the tuna industry and fleet operators in the Pacific but also for other related industries in other parts of the world which depend on tuna supplies from the region.
