The PACIFIC Ocean is, and will be, the heart of the global tuna industry, for
a long time to come. Facts are startling:
The Pacific Ocean contributes more than 64 per cent of the world tuna catch
of around 4.2 million tonnes; tuna resources in the region, particularly
skipjack resources in the Western and Central Pacific
Ocean still have
potential for growth but need careful management for future development of the
industry in the region and beyond.
Jointly organized by INFOFISH and the National Fisheries Authority of PNG
and supported by other regional organizations, PACIFIC TUNA FORUM 2007, will be
the first major international tuna industry conference to be held in the
region. The conference will look closely at the current tuna stocks and
resources in the region; investment opportunities for fishing and processing; resource
management and its impact on the industry; markets and marketing; international
trade and trade barriers; quality and new product development for Pacific tuna
industry; prospects for the future and many other relevant topics.
The event is not only important for the tuna industry and fleet operators
in the Pacific but also for other related industries in other parts of the
world which depend on tuna supplies from the region. The Pacific Tuna Forum will
also be a build-up to the 10th INFOFISH WORLD TUNA CONFERENCE and
EXHIBITION 2008, the largest tuna industry event in the world.
Jointly
organized by:
