The US FDA is the national
regulatory body for fishery products regulation and consumer
safety. |
| Bioterrorism Act |
Following the events of Sept. 11,
2001, the Bioterrorism act was enforced in a move to enhance the
security of the United States. The law was signed in June 12,
2002. According to this act, the FDA must receive prior notice
before food is imported into the United States.  |
| Country of Origin
Labeling |
Under this rule, all products such
as beef, lamb, pork, fish, perishable agricultural commodities and
peanuts requires country of origin labeling. The program
implementation is the responsibility of US Department of
Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service. Full details of the
