USA : Firm market for frozen tilapia fillet. Imports during January-September 2007 rose by 40% from the same period of last year.

CHILLED AND FROZEN TUNA:

Japan : Overall imports of tuna in January-September 2007 fell by 6.3% as lower catches continued worldwide. At the peak consumption period, supplies of fresh and frozen sashimi tuna remain low in the market. Canned tuna imports into Japan increased during this time as local packers cut down production volume.

World : Tuna fishing continues to be low worldwide and there is no sign of improvement in near future

JAPANESE SHRIMP MARKET:

Domestic and international trading continue at a slower pace as supplies are almost procured for the year-end sales. As a result prices are showing weakening signs with the exception of large sized shrimp. The festival consumption season is yet to begin in Japan. Frozen raw shrimp imports during January-September 2007 were record low at 143 053 MT. Cumulative imports of all types of shrimp during this period were 191 755 MT which was 9.72% less compared to the same period last year.

US SHRIMP MARKET:

Present demand is displaced by the thanksgiving weekend and traditional turkey dinner. Consumption may improve from December but high fuel cost may affect disposable income. Outlook for this year New Year season is rather uncertain.

FACT SHEET:

USA: Imports of edible fishery products, 2005-2006.
